What is/are Dostinex tablets?
CABERGOLINE is used for treating disorders associated with high
levels of the hormone prolactin, either due to tumors in the pituitary
gland or to unknown causes. It may also be used for other conditions
as determined by your doctor.
Dostinex is a dopamine receptor agonist. It works by blocking
prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland.
What should I tell my health care providers before I take this
medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
- allergy to any ingredient in Dostinex or to ergot derivatives
- history of certain fibrotic (scarring) disorders
- allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
- liver problems
- high blood pressure
- certain serious problems caused by pregnancy
How should I use this medicine?
Use Dostinex as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the
medicine for exact dosing instructions. Take Dostinex by mouth with or
without food. It may be helpful to mark on a calendar which days you
are supposed to take Dostinex. Ask your health care provider any
questions you may have about how to use Dostinex.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose of, contact your doctor right away. Do not take
double doses.
What may interact with this medicine?
- macrolides
- butyrophenones
- metoclopramide
- phenothiazines
- thioxanthenes

health care providers a list of all the medicines, herbs,
non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them
if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may
interact with your medicine.
What side effects may I notice from this medicine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care
professional as soon as possible:
- severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty
breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face,
lips, or tongue)
- behavior changes (eg, aggression, increased gambling or sexual
urges)
- chest pain
- hallucinations
- irregular heartbeat
- shortness of breath
- sudden unexplained weight gain
- swelling of hands or feet
- vision disturbances
- depression
- cough
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report
to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are
bothersome):
- constipation
- headache
- dizziness
- indigestion
- nausea
- tiredness or weakness
- vomiting

What should I watch for while using this medicine?
Dostinex may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting;
alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects.
To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning.
Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects. Use
Dostinex with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe
tasks until you know how you react to it.
Some patients taking Dostinex have developed certain behavioral
changes (eg, increased gambling or sexual urges). These effects
usually go away when treatment with Dostinex is stopped. Contact your
doctor right away if you notice any unusual behavioral changes.
If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor so that a
pregnancy test can be arranged.
Where should I keep this medicine?
Store at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25
degrees C), in a tightly closed container. Store away from heat,
moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep out of the
reach of children and away from pets.
